2020 began with celebration and education for American Cinema Editors.
Our 70th Eddie Awards were held on Jan. 17 and attracted a sold-out audience of 1200 to the International Ballroom at The Beverly Hilton. Congratulations to Career Achievement Award honorees Alan Heim, ACE, and Tina Hirsch, ACE; Golden Eddie honoree Lauren Shuler Donner; Heritage Award honoree Cathy Repola; feature film category winners Yang Jinmo for Parasite (drama), Tom Eagles for Jojo Rabbit (comedy), and Axel Geddes, ACE, for Toy Story 4 (animation), and all of the evening’s honorees and winners.
Congratulations and thank you to all of this season’s Academy Award® nominees in film editing, who participated in ACE’s annual Invisible Art, Visible Artists panel, which filled Hollywood’s Egyptian Theatre with a capacity crowd. This included Michael McCusker, ACE, and Andrew Buckland, who won the Oscar® for Ford v Ferrari; Thelma Schoonmaker, ACE, for The Irishman; Jeff Groth for Joker; Eagles and Yang.
In this issue, please enjoy a look at the ACE Internship Program, whose participants represent our future. Thank you and congratulations to all of our members who have contributed their time to these programs, and if you haven’t, we encourage you to get involved.
A very special thank you to all of our sponsors, who make these events and programs possible. Looking ahead, the coronavirus pandemic has prompted the cancellation of events including the NAB Show and SXSW – events at which ACE was scheduled to participate. ACE will continue to monitor upcoming events and keep members informed. Our organization also urges members to follow guidelines to protect yourselves and others.
