Editors around the world focus on their career path and work-flow differences from country to country. Panelists will show a clip from a film or show they love and discuss its significance and how it inspired them. These editors are great examples of the global nature of the editing community.

11:15 to 12:45 – A Conversation with Walter Murch, ACE
Join acclaimed film editor Walter Murch, ACE (nine Academy Award nominations and three wins, ACE Career Achievement award) in a discussion about his new documentary, Her Name Was Moviola, which tells the story of the early days of editing. Almost every film made in Hollywood from the mid-1920’s until the mid 1990’s was edited on a Moviola. Back then editing was highly external — every aspect of the process was a broad physical gesture in space and time. A bin is physically a bin, a splice is physically a splice, and you must physically rewind using muscle power to get from the end of a reel back to the beginning, and so on.
