HPA Awards 2020

Several ACE members were nominees and winners at the 14th annual HPA Awards, Nov. 21 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. Fred Raskin, ACE, won the feature editing award for Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood; Roger Nygard, ACE, was recognized in the category for an episodic or non-theatrical feature (30 minutes and under) for VEEP episode “Pledge”; and Dean Zimmerman, ACE, and Katheryn Naranjo were honored in the category for an episodic or non-theatrical feature (over 30 minutes) for Stranger Things “Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt.”

The awards for editing were presented by Martin Brinkler, ACE, and Blackmagic Design’s Bob Caniglia. During the ceremony, the HPA Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Oscar®-winning VFX supervisor Robert Legato, ASC (Legato also received a trophy for feature VFX as part of the team from The Lion King).

The inaugural HPA Legacy Award honored veteran journalist Peter Caranicas of Variety. The HPA Judges Award for Creativity and Innovation recognized Peter Jackson’s WWI documentary They Shall Not Grow Old. Adobe, Epic Games, Pixelworks, Portrait Displays and LG received Engineering Excellence Awards.
