Welcome to ACE’s annual television issue, in which we’ll look at some of the dramas, comedies and animated series entertaining audiences at home. In this issue, we also provide a snapshot of how our members are working while following safety procedures. This includes some of the findings from ACE’s recent survey about how our business is resuming in the COVID-19 environment.
Additionally, we’d like to announce that ACE is launching a new event from Aug. 29-30 –EditFest Global – a virtual version of our popular EditFest program allowing our community to safely participate in informative and inspiring conversations. The program will have a similar format to that of the in-person EditFest events. This year, speakers and panelists include Kabir Akhtar, ACE; Maryann Brandon, ACE; Tom Cross, ACE; Kelley Dixon, ACE; Axel Geddes, ACE; Michael McCusker, ACE; and Terilyn A. Shropshire, ACE.
Panel discussions include one that delves into the unique animation process, one that traces the journey from intern to editor, and others that dissect the making of documentaries The Fight and Making Waves. We’ll get sage advice on working amid the pandemic from Zack Arnold, ACE, through his “Optimize Yourself ” series. We’ll meet “Mentors Inside the Cutting Room” through a discussion with Carol Littleton, ACE; Norman Buckley, ACE; and Brandi Bradburn, ACE; moderated by Bobbie O’Steen; and get a look at the efforts of Motion Picture Editors Guild Diversity Committee.
A special session titled “You Gotta Watch This Bit,” moderated by Ant Boys, ACE, will pay homage to the late Norman Hollyn, ACE, who popularized his “Lean Forward Moment” discussions about the films and TV shows that influence and inspire. And we haven’t forgotten the networking and social elements of EditFest. We’re preparing ‘breakout rooms’ to allow participants to mingle through small group discussions.
At press time we are still working out details, but confirmed are Platinum sponsor Blackmagic Design and Gold sponsors Adobe, Avid, Ignite Strategic Communications, Motion Picture Editors Guild and Netflix. You’ll be hearing more from them during the event. Many thanks to our generous supporters.
We hope you’ll join us as we kick off EditFest Global, and proceed forward with additional services and activities. Please stay safe.
